Case SC Piston Question

The engine that I am working on has domed button-top pistons in it. I assume that these are kerosene pistons. I am going to set the motor up to run on gasoline only with a gasoline head and manifold. Should I replace the pistons with flat topped ones?

No, the domed top pistons are high compression pistons that will make your engine run stronger/better on gasoline with more horsepower. If you were to switch over to the flat topped pistons, I'm sure that you would have numerous offers for a swap as they are more desirable than the flat topped low compression pistons. My '43 SC was rebuilt back in the 60's and had the button top high compression pistons installed at that time.

Hey C. Amick; Those sound like M&W high compression pistons, definately not kerosine pistons. Sleeves & pistons are exremely hard to find for those SC's. Hope this helps John

The reason I thought they were kerosene pistons is because they are the same type of pistons that are in my kerosene tractor. I guess someone has changed them out also.
