I am in the process of replacing the brakes and seals on my 580C. I am having trouble removing the bearing/brake plates for easier access to the seals. I took the allen head screw out and pried on the plate but its stuck. Is there another screw from the back side? Also I'm replacing the seal inside the splined shaft on the right side. Anybody know any tricks to removing and installing that one? Also any other tricks to not damage the seals would be appreciated as well as other tips on this brake system. P.S. I am rebuilding the slave cylinders and replacing the springs on the bands and disks too.

If you want to remove the seals without removing the brake plate you can put a screw into the seal and then attach a slide hammer to remove it. You may have to repeat that process several times on a stubborn original seal but it works well. When replacing the seal take a 2 litre coke bottle and cut a piece of plastic large enough to wrap around the shaft with a little overlap and make it about 4 or 5 inchs long. Then slide the seal right over and onto the shaft, tapping it into place. The case replacement seals are a triple lip instead of the original single lip and will work much better than an aftermarket seal. Hope that helps.

Hi,That countersunk screw is the only one,try to remove the studs and try to rotate the plate some,On that small seal you must remove the shaft,it will slide off after you remove the brake plate and you have to remove the plate on the rear of the trans. housing and take off the nut that holds the bull gear on ,then slide the bull off the axle and roll it backwards enough to clear the spline shaft drive gear,On the brake seals, they are very easy to RUIN by rolling the lip because the splined shaft has a step on it,so I always wrap enough black tape to make it smoother.Hope this Helps

Hi I worked for a CASE CE dealership for many years we allways used a small long wood screw to get the seals out. wrap the shaft with a plastic page protector sheet and slide the new seal in place over it. We had a short piece of PVC pipe turned to the right size to push the seal into place if taking the side plates off there is a oring seal that binds up. gently slide a putty knife under both sides and lift out.
* NOTE check your bearing play before putting the new seals in and remove shims equily from both sides to get adjusted back up agin.
then put on the new oring and instal seals

before putting on the brakes and housings pick up machine on the out riggers and test run checking for leaks you'll know in about ten minnets of runing.
hope this helps JM.
