I have a 580C with power shuttle which seems to be loosing power in forward (1st Gear) - it can barely crawl uphill but seems ok on the flat. I ran some stall tests as prescribed in the manual. The big problem sems to be that I cannot get the rpm up anywhere close to 2000, and the converter test (4th gear, static, against the engine at full rpm) gave me a reading of 13 - 1400 rpm. The manual suggests weak engine, or converter on the way out.

Anyone else have any experience with this type of issue? It seems to be stronger in reverse. I was wondering if there is a forward clutch that might be the main issue - I guess I am hoping that there is a solution other than major dismantly and expensive repairs.

Check your hydraulic stall speed [ should be about 1900 RPM as I remember] If that speed is correct and the hydraulic pressure is correct, most likely you have a bad converter. They sometimes draw the engine down like that when they go bad.

Hey JD: Are you sure the engine is getting plenty of fuel? Even with a new fuel filter, there can be a collection of "moss" clogging the system. I have a chronic "moss" problem with my 1175.
