Was replacing a bad transmission input shaft bearing and trans seals. When I was installing the dual hydraulic valve body and pump for the eagle hitch I noticed a crack in the pump body. I took the pump apart and the body is cracked through one of the bolt holes clear through into the bore of the pump where the gear runs. The gears look great. The pump worked well enough to raise the 3 pt and my heavy blade so I have never checked its pressure. Any ideas on what could cause the pump body to crack? Has anyone successfully repaired a cracked pump body or do I need to replace it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Erin: Some one had installed a jury rigged hydraulic system on my DC3. I picked up a correct Case dual valve hydraulic pump in a junk yard. In checking it out I found the pump body cracked just the way you described. Got a replacement body from Don Livingston ( manifold@smig.net ). Talked to a machine shop about welding and then trying to grind and finish the repair...replacement part from Don was cheaper.

My dad has a VAC that had problems with the pump body cracking. Dad would braze it with brass and it would last for a while. We never figured out what the problem was until he bought a used pump to put on it. In comparing the 2 pumps, we found out that a previous owner had put extra springs in against the relief valve spring to make it lift more.
