Looks like I'm going to split my 580b tlb. I bought the after-market service manuals and all references to the proceedure say go to section 92 which is not included. It aint rocket science but I do have some safety concerns. First , due to every inch of garage space unavailable, I'll have to do the job on level dirt,-not to my liking one bit but the only place I have at the moment. Is this a bad idea? I can fabricate about any stand I'll need but I'd like to have them done before I start. Any sugestions on design would be appreciated. What started out as a clutch and leak repair job is now going to probably include a bunch of bearing replacements and poss. a sleeve kit for the motor. About the only thing wrong other than the clutch slipping and an oil leak is the differential seems to catch once in a while so I want to correct that also.Any how , any comments/guidance do's and don'ts would be helpfull. Thanks guys. Redd

Thanks guys for responding . If I can, I think I'm going to wait till I have the indor space to work on it. Also the more I look at this after market manual the more im thinking of finding a used set of FSM's . I guess you gets what you pays for.

The main problem with splitting the tractor on dirt is rolling either the engine or rear end away once you get it in two. You may need some good planking if you're using a floor jack, otherwise build a frame with some good industrial size wheels on it. Only one safety reminder. Brace the engine so that it CANNOT tip on the front axel.

i recently got my hands on a CaseIH service manual for my VAC and its 10X better than the I&T manual i was using. it gave me an overall view of what tools i will need to operate on my tractor when the time comes for exploratory surgery or transplant. it gives full detail to procedures and will more than likely be the answer to all of your questions on a 580B. Case may even have a pretty good catalog of parts for it but you know those industrial models. they can be tough to find what your looking for if they're that old.

I would suggest if at all possible get the true shop manuals. Remember do it right the first time and there is no second time.
