I have a 580B Extendahoe that does not seem to have the power to dig like I think it should with the backhoe. A local mechanic replaced the hydraulic pump but that did not seem to help much. The engine runs fine and does not bog down when digging. All the cylinders work and there are no leaks. What else can I look for to improve performance?

I have been told that it might be something with the control valves that are used to operate the backhoe. Would it be worth rebuilding the cylinders to see if that helps?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Troy

Troy, if your loader is strong, and the whole hoe is weak, its probably the power beyond, as the other guy suggested. Sometimes, the sleeve will crack too. (This is including stabilizers...at low idle when everything is right, if you raise a stab to its limit, it should almost kill the engine). If the whole tractor is weak, I'd check the main relief for the whole machine (its in the loader control valve). If selected circuits on the hoe are weak, others strong, I'd suspect the load checks in the hoe control valve. This is especially true if you have "ghost movement"...(actuate one circuit and another moves).
There are other things, but these are the most common problems...email me if I need to clarify...Dale

you need to check your power beyond fitting at the loader control valve - this is a sleeve under the fitting at the LCV that has the outlet which takes the flow to the backhoe - check the orings if they are still there....cheers
