We have a case 2590 that has a power shift problem with the following symtoms:

First power shift works the engine hard, but still moves.

Second and Third power shift seems to work fine.

Reverse will stall the tractor even if the clutch is pushed in.

We have cleaned the valve body under the right hand side of the cab many times which usually fixes it, but not this time.

Any ideas?

The C-3 spool being stuck in the valve body is the common cause of your symptons. It should glide freely in the bore. I if you confirm that no oil is going to C-3 pack with an isolation plug, and it still acts the same, then you possibly have warped C-3 clutch pack, but normally that will not kill the engine quickly in reverse or clutch pedal down. I would check the spool in the valve body again. C-3 is on the bottom, second one from the front, 7/8 socket.

If you find its your valve body you might want to dry this.

My valves where a bit sticky on my 2090 especailly when cold. Took the valve body off and used valve lapping compound on the spool valves. Took a drill and spun them in thier bores with lapping compound on etc. After I felt I cleaned them up good I washed it all our REALLY good with clean solvent and assembled. Its been fine for years every since.
