I bought a case 300 a couple of months ago and I am in the process of restoring it. I have done several JD and Fords but never a case. I live in North Eastern Washington and there just aren't many cases up here!
My question, the brakes don;t work very well! You really have to push hard to get them to take hold and to get a little hold you have to push the pedel at least 1/2 way? Is this an adjustment or do I need to re-build something or is that the nature of the brakes? I also understand these are mechanical type brakes, is that correct? My manual implies that.
Thanks
Terry

They are differential disc brakes. I would open and clean them up as Mr Amick suggests. Also check for oil. The shaft seals may have leaked in the past if the transmission oil level was high and/or the breather was plugged. The discs are rebuildable and available after market. Still available from Case, spendy new @ about $40 ea. (4 reqd). Good luck, Joe

Yes, they are mechanical brakes. They are ramp ball disc brakes. You shouldn't have to push down very hard to make them work. I figure the balls are rusty and need to be polished. Brake lining may be worn out or just hardened by age.
