Advice on CC rebuild

I have CC that has been sitting for a couple of decades outside. This was the first tractor I purchased (at the age of 15.) Lots of rust, engine frozen. Now that I too am retired, I would like to rebuild a CC, preferably this one, for serious sentimental reasons. It also, btw, is resting 400 miles away from where I now live. Any thoughts as to whether it is worth trying to rebuild this one, or try to find another one and use this one for parts. Or perhaps sell it where it is, and use whatever I get for it to purchase one closer. Might add that it has both wide and narrow front ends, and a 2 row cultivator attachment. Also have an original operators manual. I am just trying to get some practical advice from those who may have been there already.

If this tractor has sentimental value and you don't give a restoration your best shot, you will probably kick yourself for a long time. You can tear it down, and as funds come available put some of it back together. If you do it slowly and more deliberate then you will probably do a much better job. My 2 cents worth is to go for it. What have you got to lose?

If the mean are available, go after the one you purchased long ago. Having the original tractor, with all of the documentation, would make a great show piece. Parts are not that difficult to locate, making the possibility even better.

Do you know the serial # of the tractor? The early ones are a little more desireable. Is it on steel or rubber? Does it have the motorlift or axel extension cult. lift? The Case engines are the easiest to get loose if they are stuck. Break the sleeves and pistons out if you have to. I have done a few that were really bad. Used sleeves and pistons are available. Good Luck

1) It does have the motorlift installed. 2) It is on rubber, but the rubber is history. The current rear wheels are from some other Case model, purchased from a neighbor. The original rears had been altered from steel, and were also rubber. They were removed and stored, but are no longer available. The current ones do not have spokes, as did the originals.
3)Model number on plate indicates CC
Serial number is preceded by a C and is C313744
4)The color when it was purchased was an odd faded orange. Now pretty much rust.

SN would make it a 1934. Row crop wide fronts are few and far between. The standard non adjustable wide fronts for the CC4 are around and available. If it was mine I would go to work on it if you have time. You don't have to spend $ till it goes back togather. Good Luck

I would say that it depends on its condition. If it is more or less complete, it would be worthwhile trying to restore it. I have never tried one with a stuck engine however.

I have my father's 1936 C and it has given me great satisfaction to restore it. This tractor was complete and running but not in great shape.

Everything about it is easy to work on. Parts are the major problem, but in the US you should be able to get any part you need (parts are a problem here in Australia). I have found Don L a good man for parts, he even ships them down here.
