I have a Case 580 Super E with a leaky backhoe swing ram.

Any tips or tricks for getting the backhoe out of the way to remove the ram?

Also, do I need to completely remove the cylinder or can I just pull the ram right out the front of the cylinder?

Brent,

You don't have to remove the cylinder from the swing trunion. Swing the backhoe all the way to the oposite side of the cylinder you want to re-seal. Then remove the pin at the cylinder rod end then unscrew the cylinder gland to remove the cylinder rod, gland & piston. When re-assembling the piston to the rod be sure you use red lok-tite #271 on the bolt threads.

Hope this helps, Marc

Marc,

Thanks for the reply.

One more thing. The number stamped on both glands is G103773717812.

Case tractor parts web sites I have checked said I need this number to get the right seal kit. However, I can't find any online sites that have my part number listed.

I understand that the G10 at the front of the number means I have a one part piston as opposed to the "split piston."

Do you think that a parts dealer will be able to use my number or is there another place on the cylinder to check?
