The hyd lift on this tractor has'nt worked since I ressurrected it from the weed field about 6 months ago. Then, I flushed the old fluid, restored the filter, disassembled and cleaned the control valve, and made all adjustments according to the shop manual. When I bled the system nothing came out of the bleed valve on the ram cylinder, diddly squat. I removed the plate on the front of the cyl. and saw no obstructions and darned little fluid. This weekend I took the tran. cover off to see if I could find a ruptured pipe or some reason there was no fluid going over to the ram cyl. All that work and I couln't see any plumbing at all, it's well hidden. I removed the ram piston and got some gunk out, but not much. The leather and rubber rings were moist and in good shape. I cleaned the filter, put it back together and filled it with fresh fluid. Bled the system and got fluid out of the ram cyl. bleed valve! I manually raised the lift arms and now they won't come down! It's not the manual latch. It's a hydraulic lock, fluid isn't flowng back out of the cyl. once it's full. WHERE TO GO FROM HERE?
The oil leak is from the area between the eng. block and bell housing on the right side. Leaks down the side of the frame when running. Nothing coming out the bottom of the bell housing with inpection plate removed. Right hand inspection plate showed clutch to be clean and dry. Any ideas/ past experiences appreciated. Thanks, JIM

Does the hitch drop when you open the bleed valve in front of the cylinder. You may have a mechanical lock up with the follow up linkage inside the right side ramshaft bracket. Your oil leak may be coming from the camshaft bore between the bell housing and block. Did you have this engine apart. There should be an Oring in the bore.

Elmer, The hitch didn't drop when I opened the bleed valve on the front of the cylinder . About 1/4 ounce of fluid came out. Then, I moved the control lever back a little, from full forward, and the hitch lowered. This was without the engine running. I haven't had the engine apart. No telling when, if ever, it was apart. I think you are right about the location of the leak. The parts manual says that there is a plug, gasket and o-ring that go in the back of the block. Maybe the plug came loose. Do you think I can remove the fuel tank and top of the bell housing to get at it? Thanks for your comments, JIM
