I went through all the manuals but the only picture I could find of the bracket or Brackets for holding the hand crank under the seat was the picture labeled adjusting the seat. I have the sheet metal bracket coming out of the back of the seat but not the spring clip. It also looks like a second sheet metal bracket comes out the left side of the clip but I am not sure of this.
Anyone have a picture of the brackets mounting the handcrank to the seat of a 1949 Case SC.

Thanks

Randy,

Here's the only picture that I've got. I could've SWORN that I saved it from your ATIS site, though.

Mike it is from my site and it is the picture that makes me think an additional bracket is to the left of the main clip. It is barely in view below the crank on the left side of the seat bracket. The parts book I think shows it. I had hoped someone would have an original set up or another view.
Do you have the handcrank bracket installed on your SC?
Thanks for replying.

Hi Randy,

Yes- the hand crank clip is still in place on my '49 SC, although it's very rusty. I never knew that the clip was there until I saw that Owner's manual illustration in LeTourneau's book and saw the crank in the "stowed" position. I felt pretty silly- but at least I'd kept the crank safe for the 15 years it was away from the tractor!

The second "bracket" you speak of is just a hoop welded on the side of the seat channel. The DC has the same bracket, I believe.

I didn't have any pictures of my seat with the crank stowed- but I found a few pics in my files that might show you what you need to see:

Seat bracket on a 1949 Case SC junker in Troy, TX

Seat bracket on a 1943 Case SC at the Grapevine Museum

Hope this helps, -Schotte

Thanks Mike, the last picture you posted gives me enough information to build the spring clip. I thought I would try Don L. first.
Thanks again.

When I went to my dad's in Minnesota and saw my '51 SC for the first time since I'd bought it sight unseen months prior from an old high school friend I happened to look up at the side of dad's tractor shed.

It's a simple shed roofed building sided with rough sawn boards and has a collection of old iron tractor seats, scythes, saw blades, licence plates etc. nailed to the siding and among the items is a hand crank, turns out the crank for the DC we had from about '83 till he sold it in '89. And it fits just fine in the crank holder on my SC! He scratched his beard and said he knew there was a reason he held on to old stuff!

NOW if he'd only kept the '38 John Deere B, the three early to mid 40's Minnie-Mo RTU's, the B Allis, the 44 Massey Harris and the '53 DC-4 we had over the years instead of "modernizing" with a '63 B414 International utility, which now shares it's space with my SC.

Have you tried the hand crank to see if it would fit? Don L. sent me a DC handcrank by mistake and it would not fit my SC. They look identical but the DC crank is slightly bigger around.
