I bought a case 380 tractor and have had a problem with the stick shift popping out of gear. The transmission fluid was down quite a bit. We had to put about 4 gallons in it. Could someone explain how the shifter and the gears work. Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be?

You have wore gears and that will make it pop out of gear. Previous owner liked shifting on the go!

Elmer, my 300 pops out of reverse. Every thing looks OK, except the reverse gear is pretty well abused on the end of the teeth. I am wondering if replaceing the reverse gear would cure it? Apears reverse gear would be easy to replace. Any thing else a pain. Could cause be maybe placement of other gears it meshs with?

Is it the top idler gear that meshes with the lower first reverse gear? They wear usually form grinding the gear. If you need one i may have a good used one. I have the parts book so i can make sure what i have.

Yea. Looks like a double gear with a bushing inside. Hit me with a E-mail of what you need for it. I will look again tomorrow and take a better look at the other gear down below that it runs on. My ITT manual say it can be changed by taking off both top covers an pushing shaft into differential case. sounds easy. Kenny
