What would cause hydraulic fluid to pour out the starter of a Case 1070? It leaks at least a gallon in just a few minutes. Could it be coming from the transmission?

There is also an oil seal in the middle of starter.

Wow! I was about to get started with a transmission teardown! This is the first time I have seen such an arrangement. Thanks, Turbo and Jim!

70 series tractors with powershift transmissions have trans. fluid in the flywheel compartment. There should be a gasket between the starter and housing. It sounds like your gasket is missing or defective.
