What is the horsepower of a 970 case? I thought around 100 but it don't pull like a 7000 Allis, witch is 105 hp. We are pulling an 18' disc and 20' field cultivator. Both have 4 speed with 3 speed power shift. Allis has 18.4-38 and Case has 18.4-34 tires. My brother got mixed up, he bought black with orange belly not orange with black belly.

Jethro, according to Tractor Tips the Allis 7000 is rated at 106.44 pto HP and the Case 970 is 85.7 pto HP. Also it states the 7000 has standard 34" rubber and the 970 has 38" rubber. My experience with the Allis 7000 series seems that the engine rpms need to be kept up high in order to get the HP and the Case 70 series has some serious low end torque and can lug way down. When you compare engines the Allis 7000 has a 301" and the Case 970 has a 401", to me that should tell you something. The Allis weighs @8600 lb and the Case weighs @10000lb, but it also shows the 1070 weighing @9700?? . We had a 7020 and also a white 1070 and a black 1070 of course the black machine was a animal, the white 1070 would easily out pull the 7020. Tractor Tips claims 100.73 pto HP for the 1070, and it has the 451" engine. We pulled a 21' Kewanee disc and sometimes in the hills it was all the white 1070 wanted with duals and calcium. The black machine again was a animal and never had a problem with the disc and was set up the same as the white tractor with duals and calcium. It seemed as I was always shifting and raising up the disc with the 7020 and Tractor tips claims 123.79 pto HP all I can figure is they must rate the Allis in Ponies and the Case in Horses.:-) If you are unfamiliar with the black 70 series Case tractors they are demo models and I have yet to see one that wasnt a monster.Good Luck, Kent
