The gasket is about 1/4" thick cork gasket. People have built them up from lots of different things (my starter gap is just filled with blue silicone sealant at the moment.)

Here's an archive post from jal-SD that you might find helpful:

Hey, Schotte, didn't think anyone ever paid any attention to my posts, but see somebody kept that one someplace. I ordered two of the cork gaskets since then & got 'em both. They are getting spendy, about $6.00 ea, if I remember right. Also got gaskets for the gas caps for my SC's & the partnership DC. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Did you get the gaskets from Case-IH? If so, do you still have the part number?

I bought my starter gasket for my 49 sc from the caseih dealer last year. But I do not have the part # It came in the engine gasket set. The complete set cost about $90.

Hey jal-SD,

What do you mean that nobody pays attention to your posts??

I think that your .02 cents worth is always worth AT LEAST a buck! (grin)

I've just started pointing folks to the Case archives on questions that recur on a regular basis... You had a good answer last time- and it's still worth repeating. -Schotte
