Of the two that were on the SC, one was a 10x38, the other was 11.2x38. From what I can gather from an archives search, the 10x38 was an old size that is not made any more and 11.2 is the right one. Seems as though that's what my VAC has on it, too. Those rims aren't interchangeable are they?
Anyone care to elaborate?

The 10x38 and the 11.2x38 should be the same size tire. They just started measuring them differently and therefore the numbers changed. The rear tractor tire sizes are now measured at the widest point on the tire.

We have to bring the rims to Ed's any way, so there is little to worry about.

Maybe we'll end up burning the remnants of that tire off that rim. I think that would be okay as long as you don't let the rim get too hot.

VAs came with lotsa different sizes.

my VAC has 11.2x28s on it. to replace the 10x28s
that are no longer manufactured.

VAHs came w/ 36" tires. thats the biggest my parts manual says they came with.

now... im not sure if JMs numbers are correct, but they sound like wide replacements for original sizes. however availability is an issue, price is also, so ultimately; if it fits, use what you can.

hope this helps!

10x38 and12.4x38 are the same, 12x38 and 13.6x38 are the same, and 14x38 and15.5x38 are the same.

So, are you sayin that a 12.4x38 would be the "correct" one for that tractor?

SCs came with 10 x 38 tires the new replacement size is 11.2 x 38 DCs came with 11 x 38 the new replacement size is 12.4 x 38. Most farmers went 1 size larger when replacing them. That is why most DCs had 13.6 x 38 tires on their 11" rims. 13.6 x 38 are designed for 12" rims. The old numbering system refered to the rim width the tire was designed for and the new numbering system referd to the sectional width of the tire.

Hi Les,

Isn't the VAC a 32" rim? I thought that VAC folks had a hard time finding tires (or maybe I'm thinking about that guy with the Minnie-Mo UDLX)

SC tractors have a 9" wide, 38" diameter rim. Mine has always used a 12.4X38 tire... but I suppose the thinner 10 or 11's would work as well.

I don't know what the older tire numbers were- but I've got a Gillette Farm Tire Guide at home that lists sizes for lots of tractors and implements. I'll take a look when I get a chance.

DC tractors have an 11" wide, 38" diameter rim and can use a 13.6X38 tire.

Well, of course you're right about the VAC. (I just went out in the rain to check!) Don't know what made me think they were 38". The ones on it are 11.2x34. On the M parked right beside it there are 12.4x38. Guess I just had 38 on the brain.
BTW, that Farmall and that Case get along real well in the shed. I'd hate to have to separate them because they get arguing.

I just saw where you (Mike Schotte) thought that they were 32" tires on the VAC. Nope. Mine are 34".

Case VA series Parts book lists VA and VAO with 24" or 28" rims; VAC had 28", 32", or 34", VAH with 36", VAS with 28", VAI not listed, VAC14 not listed. FYI UDLX had 15-32 on the one that sold Saturday for $98,000.

Les,

I was wrong, too- if the VAC had either 28" or 36" rims, then it must have been that MM UDLX that had 32" rims on it with the obsolete farm tire size...

I just pulled out the Gillette Farm Tire Reference Book and took a peek. It doesn't list the "V" or "VA" series at all, though.

From the "more than you ever needed to know" file:

(dimensional data on the old 10-38 tire size for the Case SC)

Rim: W9-38
Sec. width: 10.70"
Overall diameter: 58.2"
Loaded radius: 27.1"
Bulged width: 12.1"

I just got back from having a big BBQ dinner after work... I wonder what MY "bulged width" is? (grin)
