I have a 1952 Case SC that needs engine work. The Cylinder sleeves are bad and need to be replaced. They measure 3.685" which is larger than the 3.625" (3 5/8") that the manual says they should be. The pistons are even larger than the size of the sleeve reported in the manual. As far as I know, everything is original, but I can't guarantee it. Is the manual wrong? Where can I get new sleeves at a reasonable price? I'll need new piston rings too and possibly pistons if the sleeves are smaller that my piston size.

Thanks,

Ron

You may have a 3 11/16" (3.6875")sleeve and piston kit made by MW. They were pretty common replacements. For more info search for "MW" in the CASE discussion archives. I don't think they are available any more. You can still get standard sleeve/piston kits but they are expensive, i.e. $800-$900. If your old sleeves can be honed sufficiently you can get oversized rings from Dave Reid at www.pistonrings.net(Otto Gas Engine Works).

M&W made a 3 11/16 overbore kit which is what it sounds like you have. Call Don Livingston at 507-433-0073. He can probably help. His email address is manifold@smig.net.
