On the IRONSEARCH website I found an 84 2394 posted for sale. Among the many options listed was RADAR. Is this a true groundspeed device or something else??? Was this a factory option?? Any info would be nice to settle my curiosity. Thanks!

The True Ground Speed Sensor was mounted to the tractor frame and pointed to the ground comparing movement against a magnetic sensor which was measuring transmission gear speed. With the radar, the operator could monitor wheel slip, pto speed and ground speed. By pluging tire size into the Intelligence Center(digital instrument cluster) and implement width, you could monitor the acreage that was covered in an hour, day, or week.

And with the option switch tied into the upper lift arms, the computer could tell when the implement was up or down and then gave the true amount of acreage that was covered. Its was especially usefull for fertilizer applicators.

Actually it is a ground speed radar. Don't know if they use it any more what with GPS, but it was for early precision farming apps. Case was the first and then some others had it as an option. I think it was actually made by Dicky-John (the original seed monitor people).
