OK, if this is a "CC" then doesn't that mean it is a tractor that is set up to cultivate? Shouldn't it have an adjustable width front axle?

No, the CC-4 was non- adjustable, but case sold many with both wide and narrow front and the farmer could change the front if he wanted. A lot of the early CC's had problems with the front casting breaking and were changed to wide fronts. The first casting weighed 50 pounds then they went to a 100 pounder then to the 150 pounder that they used through the D series also. The tag on the auction tractor is a repro so it is hard to say what it really is. It also has a D series head and a gas manifold. Never know it could be one of them 7 CH series made. I can't seem to tell them apart from the pictures.

Well. I still don't see how anyone could cultivate with this tractor without being able to adjust the front axle width. Where did the front cultivators mount?

This one wasn't used for cultivting. It was basically a wide front tractor same as the C. Big difference between the C and this one was that the CC-4 has the bigger tires and individual brakes on each wheel same as CC. Much nicer to drive in the fields than the C with that *(&**%$% hand brake (speaking from farming experiences).
