The 970 my brother had we pulled 5 16's in heavy soil and hills. Be sure you have weight on the front as the draft control didn't always work fast enough. We pulled a 16' disk all over the place. Good luck.

I pull 5x16's here in N.E. Kansas. The rule of thumb here is 20 horse per 16" bottom. I pull in second gear, and run from low to high range. I have some really tough, ugly yellowish crap where the dirt has washed off the hillside. 3 miles an hour is all you can handle in that. You're probably looking at a 18' disc in that soil. Talk to your neighbors and see what they pull.
