I am having a problem removing the right hand lift arm. The previous owner had performed a cobbled weld job on the control lever and the lever broke again while I was using a back blade.

The right rear wheel and fender have been removed to clear the way for removal of the lift arm. The problem I have is that the lift arm seems to be "frozen" onto the rockshaft. It probably hasn't been removed in 40 some years and may be rusted onto the shaft.

Does anyone know if there is a puller designed to aid in the removal of the lift arm? Or is there a method I can use to remove the arm?

Thanks in advance. Any help will be appreciated

have you tried a gear puller? im not sure how successful that would be since the casting is rounded. just use lots of penetrating oil and wiggle the shaft as your pulling.

just remember if all else fails, try tapping the casting w/ a heavy hammer to break the bond of the arm from the shaft. just be careful, that old cast is very porous and if you hit it too hard, or in the wrong spot, you may be looking to replace or repair that lift arm.

hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I have already hammered, pryed, and heated the arm in an attempt to break it loose. I am concerned about damaging the parts, so I decided to see if I could fashion a puller that would work, with no success to this point because of the rounded shape of the arm that you write about.

If someone has had this problem and built a homemade puller, I would most certainly appreciate getting the design before I have to "reinvent the wheel". Thanks again.

Call/visit a dealer, since tractors still have lift arms on rockshafts. Maybe a friendly mechanic will give you advice on the removal of the arm.
I'll look at my '56 VAC for some ideas for a universal puller, as I have an 801B with 3" long arms, because some dolt cut them off with a torch.

Thanks for the reply Slowpoke. I've read your response just in time to check out a couple of friends this weekend. I work away from home and it is tough to find time to do the domestic chores and to keep up with the equipment work, but this is the weekend that I can get back to my VAC project.

Are the arms on your 801B the same as any other model? I'm asking because a friend of mine has a couple of parts tractors that I could check out for lift arms. I don't know what he has, but if other models will interchange, then you may be in luck, if he will sell the arms seperately. Probably will need the puller that we have been corresponding on! Get back to me if you think I can help on the lift arms. Thanks again for the advice.
