wondering if anyone knows how a 2390 or a 2590 runs. are they good tractors? I heard to look out for powershifts and rearends. Is this true?

2390 and 2590 were the best white/gold modles Case ever made. All the transmission/rear end problems were left behind with the early 70 series. The hydraulics had a little learning curve for those of us working on them but were solid. I can not say the same for the 20/2290's these were a failed experiment to replace the 1070/1175 series, don't get involved with one of them.

These are some beasts! Either one will pull like there is no tomorrow and come back for more. Have heard of a few 2590's puttin out over 230 horse in stock settings. Probably some of the best tractors ever made. Not heard of too many rearend problems or powershift problems in the 90 series. They had most of the bugs worked out by then. Several neghibors have 2590's with over 5000 hours and never opened up the engine, tranny, or rearend.

I didn't own, but ran one for several years. No trouble with the powershift or rear end. Sit in the shed for months, start right up when you need it. Starts easy in cold weather(let it run a bit to warm up powershift). Never, ever ran hot. Only thing that gave us fits was the linkage for the park selector would on occasion break. It 's a horse.

dont know about the 90 series, but the 70 series couldnt hold a rear end if you welded it solid. Id buy a green one. theyre alot better. Case went downhill after the letter series, DC, SC, La ect. after that....

Completly Assinine
Shity
Equipment

this comes from a 1070 owner himself. Good luck

I worked on the 70-90-94 series Case and the 30-40-55 series John Deere's. The one thing I can't understand is that I worked on more Deere transmissions, axles, and planetaries than the Case units even though the Deere transmission is better? Also the bills were larger for the Deere repairs because the transmissions had to be split twice to get to the transmission.

As we have owned 7 1070's I think I have a good idea as to what kind of tractor they are. Only had one have a rearend go out. Of course it did have over 6000 hrs and did nothing but pull a 6 bottom plow and 20' disk. And only had one lose a powershift tranny. It too was well used the same way. The only other thing we had go wrong on a 1270 was the bolts that hold the clutch pack together sheared off. Just tapped the holes larger and put in larger bolts, never have that problem again. As far as the 90 series, they were even better than the 70 series. Especially the 23 and 25's. Those 25's can really take some abuse and eat it up and still ask for more.

I just traded off a excelent 2590. It had 4000 hrs when I bought it. The previous owner over weighted it and took the rear end and PS out. So when I bought it it was completly reworked including the engine. It had 6500 hrs when I traded it on a 9230. It was running great. I have a 2390 I bought new in 80 and have now 6400 hrs and have only had to valve it once at 4000 hrs. Still goes 120hrs without adding oil. Still holds 60lb oil pressure and starts great runs smooth pulls great. A pleasure to run.

Perhaps your friend shouldn't have welded it solid. Can't hold a rear end my dying a**. Only thing green is better at is re-sale.
