Elmer,
I have the head pulled off of the motor and the oil pan has been removed also. The was sulge in the oil pan but the bottom side of the motor looks ok. However on top of the pistons there is a rust build up. I am soaking it with a penetrating oil (PB rust buster & Marvel mystrey oil) The starter has been removed.

My question is..... If the motor was not stuck could I move or rotate the fly wheel? (I am using a bar and putting pressure on the fly wheel teeth)

I cannot move the fly wheel at all. I am trying to free up this motor without having to take it completly apart.

I thought about putting it in gear and trying to rock it with another tractor. But my father who is helping me is afraid we will ruin the piston rods....

What do you think???

Thanks again for the info

cjh

DO NOT USE ANOTHER TRACTOR!!!!! rock the rear wheels back and forth by hand. I would say if it is that dirty on the top side you better pull the pistons out. The rings will likely be siezed in place and it will either have very poor compression or burn oil. You are not that far from getting the job done anyway. Even if you do get it freed up you better pull them anyway. Rings do not cost that much more money anyway.

If you do it easy I soubt you will ruin the rods, they are monsters. I have had to break the pistons out with a chisel.

Id plan on taking it apart. If it is that big a mess in the top half of the blocknot much more to strip it all the way down and do it right.

I've turned my 995 (same engine) over with a screw driver on the flywheel teeth.
