Randy,
I put a gas 188 from a 660 combine into my gas Case 630. No problem. The only difference is my dipstick ended up on the opposite side.

Randy, I have a 450 case dozer with a 188 Gas engine from the factory, you are correct the crankshafts are the same therefore the length would not be a problem. The problem I can think of is the governor. E-mail me I have a parts book.

Hey Randy The gas engine in the 660 is a 201 CU -IN. I believe it is longer than the 188. ;

Randy, from what I can see they use most of the same gaskets, head, oil pan,and conversion set,so I would assume they are pretty close to the same size.I think the big issue would be the bolt pattern on the bellhousing area, starter and flywheel,if that was the same as I beleive it is, they offered both the 188G and 188D in the same tractors, I think there would be no serious problems.
Hope this helps Terrance

thx Terrance i know they look exactly the same i also am quite sure they use the same crank in gas and deisel just more machining for deisel the part im wondering is if the starter ,flywheel , bellhousing will all interchange also is there any difference in the 188 combine engine and the industrial engine dont wanna tear this old combine apart for nothing but if the engine will work i'd like to hear from somebvody thats actually changed one over

Randy the crankshaft in the gas engine is three main bearing,the diesel is 5. I sold a 188 diesel out of 350 crawler,it was put in a 530 wheel tractor.The parts book i have for a early 530 shows the flywheel the same for the 159 gas engine and the 188 diesel,i am not sure about the 188 gas engine. There has been several combine engines installed in backhoes in this area.
