jon, just went out and measured the back motor flange on a 300 and 400B. The two lower bolts are about an 1.75" wider apart on the 400B. I have read were people have put 201 combine engines in VACs but I will bet it was not real easy,or it was a bitched up job.

Tom, is the bolt pattern the same on the rear engine flange,I know the starter bolt pattern is different. the engine is longer, did you length the hood. what starter ,flywheel and clutch did you use. And did you have to cut out the bellhousing for the starter.

MARTIN IN DE,OK HERE IS WHAT I DID, TRANSFERED HOLES FROM BELL HOUSING TO ENGINE AND REDRILLED ENGINE BLOCK, BLOCKED OFF ORIGINAL HOLES IN BLOCK, HAD FLY WHEEL FROM VAC RE DRILLED TO FIT THE 201 ENGINE, KNOCKED OFF THAT RING FOR STARTER AND GROUND ALL OUT SO VAC STARTER WOULD FIT IN ORIGINAL VAC LOCATION, USED VAC FLY WHEEL AND CLUTCH, THAN GROUND OFF THE ENGINE FLANGE TO MAKE NICE LOOKING JOB, YES LENGETHENED HOOD AND DRAG LINK 3/4 INCH, ALSO USED VAC GOVERNOR AS 201 HAD BELT DRIVIN GOVERNOR, IF YOU ARE IN DELWARE(if that is what de is for) THAT TRACTOR WAS IN NJ AND MAKE A BIG HIT AT PULLING CONTESTS. IT IS NOW IN ILL AND IS A 224 ENGINE NOW AS GUY HAD IT ALL WORKED OVER AND MADE INTO A 224 , VAC WITH 80+ HP I HAVE A PIC AND WOULD SEND IF I HAD YOUR ADDY, I DONT KNOW HOW TO POST A PIC HERE DC TOM

The 300/300B and the 400B use the same engine, a G148 cu in and the bolt patterns are the same. They both have two bolt pattern starter. I dont know about the 500B or 600B, but if the 164 Cu in engine has the two bolt starter I believe it should fit with no problem. The problem is using the later G148B engine which has the three bolt starter.Hope this helps

Martin,
I have a round nose 300 with a dry clutch two bolt starter,I also have a 400B with Case oMatic it also has a two bolt starter both engines are the same the bolt patterns are the same.I know that the lower bolt pattern is the same on mine for sure because I just transferred the front axle from the 400B to the 300 complete including the support that bolts to the lower bellhousing.Maybe there was a midseries change in the B series and if so that could account for the difference you are showing.
Hope this helps.
Terrance
