1030 Power Steering Pump Problems

Early Model 1030, Hard to turn, occasionally cuts out for a sec.

Not the belt, not a lack of fluid. Has steadily got worse over the past 2 years. Since I got a second 1030 I realize this steering has never been right. So can I remove and clean, adjust. I know there is a filter in the pump, will that solve all my problems?

Any hints?

I have about the same problem with a set of 930 ck tractors. The one that I had was always hard to steer but it worked with some resistance. I had the cylinder rebuilt, hose's are good and pump is putting out good volume. Not sure what pressure it is capable of producing. I bought another 930 here 2 years ago and it steers with one hand on the wheel. I did notice the setup with the cylinder is two different design's. I even went as far to swap the cylinders from tractor to tractor and the hard steering one is now the good one. I would think it would have to be the cylinder with yours.

There is a rebuild kit from Eaton for about $ 160 that has new rollers & the ring inside that the rollers run on. Maybe they are worn enough that replacement would help. Just a thought.
