1070 powershift problem

I have an early 1070 (yellow) that when warmed up is weak in 2nd powershift position. Pressure on gauge drops in 2nd, and will not go up until engine is above 1500 rpm. 3 pt is slow to raise in 2nd, oil level is full. Is this likly a c3 clutch problem, seal or bolt broke? What checks should be done before doing a split? Any upgrade parts? Is a dealer the only place to get clutch parts and seals? Why do some tractors have cast nose fronts and others have fiberglass? Thank you for any help you can give.

ONLY THE 1970 MODEL 70'S SERIES HAD THE CAST GRILL.
IN 1971 THEY WENT TO FIBERGLASS.

First thing that i would do before splitting the tractor at the engine is remove the powershift valve located under the cab platform. Remove the floor mat and remove the two screws towards the seat and remove the plate. Wash the top cover off really good. Remove the 10 bolts that hold the valve body on and revove the valve. Be sure not to loose the detent spring, ball, and spacers. look for a torn gasket, more so the upper gasket than the lower gasket. If the gaskets are ok, than i would think that you have broked bolts in the c2 hub. I would put the bigger bolts in if thats the case. When installing the valve body use the torque sequence in the book,,very important.

I agree with dwag on the funky symtoms and usually when they occur the C2/C3 clutch bolts are sheared. They can be replaced with larger diameter bolts. It requires drilling and rethreading the appropriate parts. I have never seen the larger bolts shear. The later tractors had much better seals on the clutch pistons but the pistons are also different which means you would have to buy pistons to match the seals. My email is open if you want more details.
The first 970, 1070, and 1170 tractors had cast iron fronts while 770 and 870 were fiberglass. The 12/1370's were introduced later and by that time all of the models were fiberglass

Sounds like a leak in C3 circut as you said. Since 3rd range uses C3 also, you should notice a weakness in that range also. I have never seen it, but you could have a leak in C3 side of C2\C3 shuttle valve located in the RPS control valve. Broken bolts and distributor rings, torn control valve gskt, can cause some funky symtoms also. Only update for early RPS I know of is pistons and seals,(A46286 seal kit?) and only source for parts are salvage or OEM. I think all the first 70 series had a cast front except 12&1370?

Sorry, I can't help with the power shift problem, but for the cast/fiberglass nose I think that only the 1170 had the cast iorn nose, while the 1070 and 1175 and the other 70 series tractors all had fiberglass.
