I have a 1953 Case VAS. I was just wondering how rare they are and what one would be worth in good shape.

Hello Ron, I have noticed this is the second time you have asked this question. First of all, how good of shape do you consider the VAS to be in? Does it run? Does it smoke? How much pitting from rust do you have? How bad do the seals leak? Do the brakes work? Most of the time the brakes are bad because to change the pads and turn the drums you have to pull the axle. Have have the pads custom relined. Can't buy replacements at Case/IH. Takes about 6 to 8 hours to pull clean replace seals re-install refurbished pads and reinstall axel on each side. Another question is how much noise is coming from the transmisson. Replacing bearings and seals costs about $350 to reduce road noise. I own five of the them. 2 have been restored a third one runs and the other two are being restored presently. The pictures are in the tractor photos. Look up VAS and you can see what they look like after complete restorations. The only way I can answer you on present value is this short reponse. "The value for anything is only what someone else is willing to pay for it". If you have any questions I could help with please feel free to email me. I will see if I can help. Sorry I didn't answer all your questions.

What does VAS mean? Small? Super? It looks lower than my VAC14. My VA Series parts book doesn't list a VAS. Or a VAI if there is one. It's dated 5-'59

The "S" in VAS stands for single row. Were primarily sold for cultivating vegetable and similar row crops... Gene

Would the VAS be an earlier name for the VAC-11? Maybe an earlier designation that was changed to letter/number. That is the single wheel designation in the parts book dated 11-'59. The VAC-12 is dual front wheels, and the VAC-13 is adjustable front axle. The VAC-14 is also adjustable front axle, but I don't know the difference.

The VAS was a seperate configuration and never labeled as a VAC. VAS used the narrow vineyard rear housings and VAH drop boxes for the rear wheels and 24 inch wheels from the VA. Front axle was similar to a VAH, but narrower... Gene

Jim,

I have seen your tractors in the photo section. They look great. As far as this tractor goes. The lift cylinder has just been rebuilt and it works great. The engine was popping some, it had a couple of bad valves so the head has been reworked. It runs and operates great. It has a new Zenith carb. The tranny makes no noise at all. The tires are in good shape but weather cracked. I have a new pair for the front. The side panels are missing and the brakes dont work just like you said. The tractor has the original paint as far as I can tell and it is in pretty good shape with no major rust or pitting. I can send some photos if you want to see it. I was just wondering what to ask for it. This tractor actually belongs to a friend of mine, Im a Farmall man and dont know much about anything else. Thanks for the info.

Yes Ron, send me your photos. I will take a look and give you an idea what I think the value should be. Replacing rear tires a little over $300 dollars. Side shields if you can find them, any where from $50 to $100. Seat, steering wheel and all the other little things add up to take value away from the tractor. Once again it could go higher if someone really wants it. Probabaly would get more if you took it to a reserved auction verses selling off the road in front of your house. Good luck, Jim
