'50 case sc thermostat question

Took my recently rebuilt case sc out today. It was about 20 outside. After 40 min of running the coolent was only slightly warmer than it was when i started. It didnt even warm up enought to move the temp gauge. My question is, Is there supose to be a thermostat in there someplace and if so where? In my rebuild process i never came across one so it may have been removed when i got the tractor. Any imput would be greatly aprciated. I know we want stuff to stay cool but it cant be right to be that cool.

my dad i figured it was going to be in a spot like that. our 8n is that way to. mustnt have had one in it in a long time.

Do you have any recomandations on the temp range that i should put in it?
The pic/diagram wouldnt load on that link you had.

The thermostat was designed to be located in the upper radiator hose- check it out:
