I'm at Collier Mem. State Park and Logging Museum in Oregon and we have a 1878 Case Steam Eng. we're trying to restore the front axle on. Does anyone have photos of an original front axle of this vintage that you'd like to share? This one has been extensively "field-repaired" and it's tough to see just what the original set up was. I'd appreciate any response, including other sites I might check. Thank-you, Ranger Larry

Several ways to go here you did not say if it is a portable or a traction engine with steering wheel, buy a copy of the orginal 1928 steam parts manual right here or Ebay has had many, but they are expesnive and by the looks of the guy buying them he is trying to get them all, contact George Schaaf he has the one in Frankfort IL that the JICCA club is trying to donate to the Racine History Museum #711 serial number is held by someone in brooks Oregon if it is a portable Herb Wessel retored # 1 back to the Smithsonian Institue they both could help you or #25 is in Archbold Ohio in a museuem,150 years of Case by C.H.Wendel and Full steam a head by David Erb all have pictures hope this hepls

Thanks Glenn! Yes that is very useful info. I'll check into it. I did find a pic. of a 1887 Model with a good view of the front end. I'm guessing it's a very similar design. Our's is a portable eng., but the smoke chamber cover is gone...prob. busted when they pulled the axle out from under it..so I'm not sure what # it is. Thanks again!
