The easiest way is to find a 12 volt generator and replace the six volt generator. The starter does not have to be replaced it will just crank a lot faster and make it much easier to start. You will need to put a voltage reducer on the ignition system or you will burn the points up in the distributor all the time. Crysler used these on their cars for years probably until 72 or 73 they were called voltage resister. It was a peice of porcelain with two coils of wire on the bottom that looked like springs. Of course if you still have the magneto on it you don't have to worry about the voltage. Also if you keep it as positive ground you will need to polarize the generator, which will have to be done anyhow if you buy a rebuilt one. If you use an alternator it is a little bit more complicated. ou will need some kind of exciter from the ignition to get the alternator to work they need electricity going to them before they can start sending it out also you will need some kind of a one way switch or diode so when you turn the engine off it closes the source or the alternator will feed the ignition and the engine will continue to run. I'm not real sharp when it comes to complicated electrical things but I'm sure you can find someone that can figure it all out. Jerrie

The voltage resistor he reffered to is actually called a Ballast resistor. Chrysler did use these for many years. I had 69 Dodge Polara that had a balast.

Bob Thanks, I got a brain cramp last night and could not think of ballast resistor, all I could think of was some type of resistor. Jerrie
