Just thought I'd let you know how the repairs went on the Eaton third member.

2 tapered bearings & cones-$116.06
1 roller bearing-$62.99
1 pinion shaft seal-$48.49
used pinion shaft carrier-$50.00
1 speedi sleeve(pinion shaft)-$26.79
While everything was apart, I replaced the bushings and seals in the rear axle, and installed 3 speedi sleeves. Chiseled 18 acres of clover ground yesterday and didn't see any leaks around rear axle or planateries. Now if it doesn't rain, I can get my anhydrous applied.

Sounds like shes ready to go to work for ya now , Jim. That doesn't sound too bad as far as price as concerned. Of coarse, if you would have taken it to a shop, it would have costed 4 times as much. How many hours were on your 24 when the rearend went? I hope mine holds out for a while yet, I just turned over to 6200 Hrs. Hope you have good luck with it now- Wide Open

P.S. I got my rear steer adjusted w/ that copy of the service manual you sent me, works like new now, thanks alot for takin the time to copy that off for me.

I'm glad I could be of help. The 2470 has a little over 6000 hours on it, but it was my fault the rear went out. It was leaking out a axle seal a little more than I thought. We have terraces and steep ground here, and I lost too much grease. We had to pull the tie rod off this morning. Before I got done with the chisel, that darn thing was bent. Will weld angle iron on the front, maybe stiffen it up some more. Both steering cylinders were working, don't know why she bent.
