I have a 1070 that was an open tractor that I put a cab on off another 1070 that had been sitting awhile. I put all new a/c lines, new expansion valve, new receiver/drier, used condenser, used compressor, and used the core that was already in the cab. My question is if the mechanic did not correctly charge the system. I am told the system should be flushed and vacuumed before charging with new freon and oil. He only put the vaccum on for about two minutes and then put in three cans of 134 and 8 ounces of oil and checked for leaks and found none. It cooled for about ten minutes after he left then stopped cooling. When i called he said it probably stopped up somewhere in the lines or valves and that he wasn't able to look at it any further. Should it have been flushed and vacummed for a longer period before charging? If it is stopped up, will this remedy the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated as i don't really know anything about a/c.

I used to do boiler frig work , and yes he should have put it under vacume for at least 10 min checking gages for any change for leaks. then put in a flushing agent. remove it then revacume it and check for leaks , as the flush can cause a leak in an old system, then charged the system if all checked out.ran it for ten to fifteen min. checking pressures all the time.

1/2 hour is minimum a hour or even more would be even better. It wouldnt hurt to leave the vacume pump on over night on a new system like that.

Hey Dudley: My experience is to leave the vacuum pump on for close to 1/2 hour.
