Hello all, I have a case vc, at least this is what I have been told, it has VT on most numbers on castings, my question is this , when I purchased this tractor it smoked like crazy but drove Ok. I worked on it got it running better, went to go for a ride, and it moved a tiny bit and CLUNK,, it wont go anywhere, I can see the axles that come out of the rearend to the wheels sort of shimmering in any gear I put it in, I have not ripped into the rear yet, but was wondering if there is any guess as to what I may find? or look for? thanks pat

If it has the flathead 4-cylinder Continental engine then it is the V series (not the VA series which were much more common). Getting those rear axle castings off can be fun, they don't come off quite as easy as the manual says (they splined end of the axle tends to stick on the inside). It's a messy business inside there what with that disc brake setup surrounding the axle. Email me (I've removed the hide feature) if you wish. Make a lot of notes and drawings as you go so everything goes back together OK. I have seal numbers for replacements if you want them.

The VC's have a history of breaking the rear axles. Sounds like what it might be... Gene
