When turning the steering wheel, I have to turn the wheel 210 degrees before the tires move. I know about 5-10% of that is the tie rod ball joints that are all but shot, but the rest seems to be in the Steering Housing Gear.

What is in here that would wear? Can I still get parts?

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Bob

Bob,

There is a tapered pin in the sector that meshes with the steering worm .The pin is pressed in the sector and welded , the pin wears and sometimes the weld breaks. For one of my customers I took the box apart, ground out the weld , pressed out the pin . I used very hard fusibile spray weld to build up the pin , then grind it in the lathe with a tool post grinder . Then press it back into the sector and weld like factory . That worked well.
