i have an oil leak around my pto so thought a new seal would fix the problem...problem is the seal does not come in contact with the shaft..i can move the pto shaft up maybe 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch and see the oil come out underneath the shaft. anyone know how to fix this leak? thanks, joe

I do not fully understand what is going on w/your PTO. Do you have the correct seal? Sounds like the seal is incorrect, or the shaft is grooved in way of the seal lip.You can probably overcome a groove problem by repositioning the seal in or out away from the grooved area or install a speedy sleeve. These sleeves are available at NAPA and all bearing supply houses. Better check shaft dia.versus seal inside diameter first

chief,it is kinda strange..the pto shaft does not come into contact with the seal at the pto housing. i noticed the leak so thought the pto seal was leaking..i pressure washed the back of my tractor and started to remove the old seal. however it appears that the seal itself is not leaking..my pto shaft is the 540 and 1000..pull a snap ring to remove and reverse.i need to know how the oil is seeping out from under the shaft itself. joe
