Recently I purchased this unit, works very well ,but a few days ago i saw red fluid (from back end of torque tube}The bottom 6 bolts were loose (2 are back of the battery case.} Does anyone out there know if that is a common problem.?Is there any way to seal this leak, or does the unit have to be split in two and a new gasket?

I had this problem a couple of years ago on a 580 CK Diesel with Power Shuttle. No amount of tightening the bolts or surface sealer worked. Partially because some of the bolts/nuts are only accessable from inside the shuttle case. By the time you see the leak it's too late ... the gasket is damaged beyond easy repair. I had to bite the bullet ... split the tractor and install new gasket. Found the threads on a couple of studs were stripped and had to also replace the studs & nuts. The good news is that I was able to throughly flush & clean the inside of the trans and torque tube cases before new oil and also replace a damaged first gear and nearly worn out shuttle clutch plates during the "spit" disassembly. Wow ... many $$$$, but all works better now.

Thank you Jim B for the fast reply.Mine seems to be leaking on or near one stud.Do you have a guess as to the # of hours for a split to replace gasket? DOES THE CAB HAVE TO BE TAKEN OFF?Finally where could i get a detailed description of the disassembly process. THANKS AGAIN

My 580CK does not have a Cab, in fact I didn't know Case made a Cab for the machine, have never seen or heard of one. Just looked in my Manuals and no Cab is shown. Yours must be aftermarket or home made ?? But surely the Cab must need to be removed to 'split' the machine. Also the Backhoe must be dismounted. The time required depends mostly on your knowledge, facilities, tools and help. Case still sells Service and Parts Manuals, pretty expensive, maybe $150. Excellent publications, would not recommend starting the job without first getting and reading the Service Manual. I’ve seen them often available on e-Bay. Floor jacks and overhead chain-fall, on a beam & trolley, are highly desirable. I estimate I spent 8-10 hours, by myself, getting my 580CK split. It takes longer to get it back together, by yourself. Suggest a second person would speed things 3-fold and improve safety.
