I"m looking for brake bands for a 1941 V case. Does anyone know the part number and where the part could be purchased?

Band brakes on a model V? Never heard of that, as far as I know they all had a "pressure plate" and "disc" sort of setup inside the rear axle housing. Are you sure it's a model V?

I could be wrong on the brake bands. This is what we had been told. I haven"t taken anything apart yet so I haven"t actually seen the brakes.

I"m pretty sure it is a V. The serial number plate is gone. There is no toolbox that I understood also had a serial number. This tractor has been in the family for a while.

It is a V if it is a smaller tractor and has a 4 cylinder flathead Continental engine in it, the factory ones were 124 cubic inches. The V looks similar to the VA series except the VA series had an overhead valve Case engine in it. The V's had the exhaust through the small hood on the drivers right side while the aircleaner came through the hood on the drivers left.

The exhaust does come through the hood on the right. It is a 4 cyl. flathead engine. I do have some papers from Case and they refer to it as a V. (We did have the serial number at one time) My father tried to fix this years ago.

The symptom is when you press the brake pedal, either one, the pedals don"t really go down at all and there is no braking whatsoever.

Yes, you undoubtedly have a model V (the VC was the narrow front version. I think the only place the serial number was located on those tractors was the tin plate on the dashboard so it's obviously gone. It's probably a pretty ugly mess in there and it's no easy task to redo those brakes. Mine sounded just like yours, absolutely no braking at all. They are inside those big axle housings which both left and right sides must come off to get at the brakes. They are a pressure plate/disc setup. I redid mine last summer. If you are going to pull all that stuff off, I could help you out a bit. I have removed the "hide" feature from my email address so feel free to email me. I also kept the seal numbers on file here for replacement seals. Get back to me by email if you wish.

Give Don L. @ Austin, MN a call - 507.433.0073, AM best. He's a good guy to deal with & probably has some, either new or used in stock, or knows where you can get them. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
