I took the radiator off of my 1030 and of course it needs a new core - I figured as much - question I have is this...does anyone know of anything better than a simple re-core to help keep a 1030 cooled? They have a reputation of getting warm (and mine would too) and I wonder if there is anything else I should be doing rad. wise while I am at it. Also will have the water pump rebuilt and install new belts & hoses as a precaution. Thx.

I have two 1030s and both had a heating problem. I had tried all the tricks, and nothing worked,I finally moved the air cleaner, out in front of the grill, and mounted two defroster fans,so that they blow air through the top of the core.I seems like the top quater of the core doesn't get air from the fan like it should, and the electric fans made a world of differance. I just use a switch to turn them on,when thr motor gets to hot,or you could probably use some kind of a thermostat switch. I know it doesn't look right with the air cleaner out front, but I got tired of having head problems, from the over heating.

Hey Eb: Glenn is rite. The Parts book showed an optional fan with 7 blades as opposed to 5. I'd put 160 degree thermostats in and check your fan cowl to make sure it hugs back on the blades. I had to shim mine back on my 1175. Keep the fins blown clean. Funny thing is that when I was a kid I ran the neighbors 1030 pulling 6-16s & she never overheated.

Eb, does that have a double fan belt? My 930 had a double belt and it had to be tight, then ran cool. Neibour with a 1030 fought his hot problems all the time.

I have heard of people upgrading to a fan with one more blade. Glenn F.
