can someone tell me what was the first year the eagle hitch was available on the vac? I just bought a 1948 with the eagle hitch but the torque tube does not have provisions for the hydraulic oil reservor that I seen on one in Kentucky and someone has added one on the floor to the left of the seat. I'm wondering if someone has added the hitch from another tractor. also what is the cubic inches and horsepower of this tractor. this is my first Case. Thank you!

Thanks Joe for the response and info. It pretty much confirms my suspicion that someone along the line has added the eagle hitch. Did the non eagle hitch tractors have the spot in the block to add the pump? Also the front axle is a solid rectangular solid piece of steel unlike the adjustable tublar front axles I have seen. Don't have it running yet but anxious to start.

The opening in the engine block was originally for a magneto. It is the same size & bolt circle on all VA series blocks. The lp hyd pump can either be stand alone on a distributor ignition engine or modified to drive a piggyback mag.

The VAC came with either the rectangular or tube type front axle but as far as I know both were adjustable.

I have not seen a VAC prior '49 that the eagle hitch rock shaft would bolt directly to the rear end, doesn't they aren't out there tho.

If it has a square non adjustable front axle it is either a VA or a VAI (industrial).
Most VAC's that did not come with an Eagle hitch do not have the platform where the rock shaft fastens. Usually the whole rear end housing needs to be replaced.

third party image

The bracket shown at bottom mounted the late Eagle hitch rockshaft to the early casting....I'll bet you could sell a few of these if made some up!

I have a 1948 model VAC with the belt pulley hydraulic pump (no Eagle Hitch). Yes, it has a place on the engine block for an engine driven pump. Sounds like yours may be a VA and not a VAC (cultivation) tractor. Does it have a rectangular opening up front for the cultivators to mount?

No it does not have the square pockets for the cultivators. I think I have a hybrid that someone has put together.
