I have a Cub and my dad has had one since 1950 . I also have several Case SC's. The Case's for the most part are made more heavy duty than the Farmalls. The 1949 SC is around 23 horsepower, if it has the original 3.5" cast iron pistons. It will pull 2-14 inch plows in 2nd. gear. It is the equivalent of a Farmall H. The oil bath hand clutch will take a little getting used to, especially when backing. When you park it and it is not in use, disengage the clutch.

Why would you disengage the clutch? Is there a chance of it sticking? I have a '51 SC and although it's kept in the barn, I was leary of setting the parking brakes because of the possibility of the discs galding to the friction plate. I suppose I could chock the wheels instead. Please advise. Thanks, Steve.

There is a chance of the clutch plate sticking if it sets for a long period of time. But he biggest reason I disengage the clutch is to release the pressure plate so the springs don't stay compressed. I don't set the brake. I just leave a piece of a 2x4 laying on the floor of the tractor shed. Some may think this is not needed. I didn't read anything that said to do it.

The clutch in a '49 SC is the over center type and there are no springs to compress. It does not hurt the clutch to be engaged while it is parked. If you are using good quality detergent oil, and don't let it get filthy dirty between changes it will be OK. Use it once a year and you won't have a problem.
