Case 530 injector pump help needed

I think I made a major screw up with a friends 530. He was using it and it lost power then stalled. He drained the fuel, changed the fuel filter and cleaned the bowl. The machine wouldn’t start after that. It would run a little with a bit of starting fluid but then die quickly. He called me and I looked at it and looked for a screw or a bolt on the injector pump to bled the air out. We cracked several screws including the pump side injector lines and got no fuel flow. I figured there was a problem with the injector pump. I had the bright idea to remove the injector pump and get it looked at by the local diesel shop.

Today I removed the pump but didn’t mark anything. I don"t think that I"ve moved any thing (shaft or turned the pump). After finding this forum and reading other posts I realize I made some mistakes. The help I’m looking for is:

1. How to put the pump back on correctly i.e. get the rubber seals on the shaft correctly, and making sure the pump timing correct.

2. How to bleed the pump and the injectors, as this was probably the problem in the first place.

I think this is a 530, it has a Stanadyne injector pump. I have access to parts manuals and operator manual but not a service manual. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mike O"

On the end of the injection pump drive shaft, look for a "line up hole". Look inside on the injection pump for a "line up hole" also. Use a large screwdriver and turn the pump rotor over to line up that hole to the same position as the shaft on the engine and install. That will get you close. The timing hole is on the right side of the clutch housing near the bottom (round looking cap). It should be timed at 8 degrees, chect the decal on the valve cover. Be very careful not to roll the first seal when you slide the pump on, I use o ring pics to guide the seal in. Now for the bad news !! If you or the repair shop did not tie the throttle arm to wide open position, the cam ring or governor ring can come out of place, then you may have more problems. Turn on the fuel and loosen the return line at the pump until fuel comes out. Loosen the injection lines at the injectors, turn over the engine until fuel comes out. Then your ready.

Thanks, How can I tell if the cam ring or the governor ring came out of place? How much disassembly is required to put them back in place?

I don't know the extent of your mechanical knowledge and I am also not sure what you mean, so I don't want to get overly technical, but . . . the plastic weight retainer is not connected to the cam ring. The cam ring is held in place by a threaded pivot stud and two bolts, which I'm sure you did not remove and, is more or less stationary when the pump is being used. It only moves to retard or advance timing. The governor weights, plastic retainer, etc. DO rotate. What CAN happen with some RoosaMaster pumps is some small parts can come out of alignment if you remove the pump without first tying the throttle lever into "full throttle" position. This keeps spring tension on the whole works and keeps it in place when you pull the pump off the drive shaft. If parts DO get out of alignment, it's no big deal to look in the drive-end bushing hole and push the parts back into place. That pump requires NO priming, but priming might make things go a little better. As long as it's getting fuel, it primes itself and has its own internal fuel pump. The pump can be easily checked without sending it to a shop to see if it pumps fuel. Just make sure the pump is in "run" position, depending on if it's electric or manual. Then, stick a big screwdriver into it and rotate by hand while squirting diesel fuel into the intake. I do it with a hand-held oil can. It will pump fuel at that speed if it's working.

Is this tractor diesel or gas? Diesel usually have carburators and gas has a regulator. I never heard of an injection pump....

What the heck are you talking about? Perhaps we come from different planets.
