Can anybody tell me why the PTO Levers on the above tractors will not stay engaged & how to fix the problem.

John i remember something about adjusting a detent spring. I'll get out my shop manual and see if i can find out more and get back to you.

Looked in the parts book and i think if you remove the pressure line to the pto from the flow divider valve, there is an allen screw in there. Turn it in one turn. I did this about 5 years ago on a 2290. I'll make a phone call to a guy i used to work with at the Case dealer and verify this.

my experience has always been clutch plate problems letting the piston travel to far then loosing preasure then letting the lever kick back out preasure holds it in saometimes it will kick out imediatily sometimes when the oil gets warm hope this helps, now tell me why my 2096 is so hard to start after setting overnite.

Hey Trader: These PTO's have little wear. funny thing is, that my 870 with many PTO hours stays engaged. My 2096 starts the same as yours when the Temp is 30F & below. It won't stall as much if I open the throttle wide open, not letting it rev up, of course.

hey john i had a 90 series that wouldn't stay in so i backed another tractor up to it hooked a line from good tractor pto to problem tractor kicked on still wouldn;t stay on so at least i knew it was in the pack not valve i like chalenges.this 96 seems a lot harder to start than my others just seems to be loosing prime why doesn't it start like my 200,000 mile dodge.
