I am looking at a 1949 Case-VAC to buy. But before I buy it I need to know if I can successfully put hydraulics on it and if so, is there is a loader that was made for it (or one that will fit) and also can I put a 3-pt. hitch on it? Can anyone help me with this? Thanks! Kevin

All of the above can be done but I think I would wait for a later tractor that had it all to start with.

1949 is the first year of the Eagle Hitch on VAC. If yours does not have it originally then the rear end does not have the mounting platform cast and machined behind the seat that the unit bolts down to.

It uses a lower pressure pump mounted out of the magneto hole on the right front of the engine. The high pressure pump that was mounted on the belt pulley does not have the volume required to run hardly anything except the little cylinder that operated the early rock shaft.

It will be tough to find a loader made for a VAC. Most have long years ago already been used up. I made 2 in the last year to fit that I had purchased at local auction out of loaders that were for other applications.

Kevin: Earlier VACs had a high pressure hygraulic pump on the belt pulley shaft. Later had a full time pump on the front of the engine. I am not sure when teh change was made. My 1950 had the full time pump and came with a trip bucket loader...(have never been able to ID the make of the loader). I don't think that the belt pulley hydraulic pump would be suitable for a loader as pump stops when clutch is disengaged. Later VACs also came with Eagle hitch which can use most 3 pt implements. Again don't know when that started. The way mine was plumbed you could use either eagle hitch or loader but not both at same time.

Frankly if VAC you are looking at doesn't have hydraulics or eagle hitch I think it would be easier and cheaper to pass on it and look for a latr model that had hydraulics and eagle hitch
