Hello. Whats the differents between a 1170 Case and a 1175 Case? Was the 1170 a bad tractor because they only made them one year? Thanks and have a good day.

The 1170 and 1175 were virtually the same tractor mechanically. Both had the 451 Turbo engine. 4-speed transmission with high and low range giving 8 forward speeds and 2 reverse, and planetary gears as opposed to most tractors having axles. The later model 1175s did have a different type of steering and brake control. The 1170 had a cast iron nose piece as opposed to the 1175 being fiberglass. The 1170 also had an almost indestructable front axle. The 1175 was a little too lightweight for dual saddle tanks carried on the front end. The spindles were the worst weakness. The 1170 also had HUGE cast iron wheel hubs inside and outside. The 1175 had the pressed steel outside dual wheel which was much lighter. For light work such as working in the hayfield, I prefer the 1175. For brute strong, gorilla tough, heavy work, give me the 1175. My dad had both, bought new, (1170 in 1970 and 1175 in 1974), and ran dual front mount tanks on both models. He still had them both when he retired in 2000. The 1175 had one spindle break and one front wheel bearing set replaced over the years. Not one thing was ever done to the 1170, not even tightening the wheel bearings. I would like to have it back someday.

This came from my cousin who was a Case dealer at the time: Pres. Nixon put a freeze on prices at that time, so anything on the market couldn"t go up. But anything new or redesigned could be charged a new price. I remember the compression ratio lowered by .5 under the 1170.

Hey Highwired: Here is the Scoop, directly from Famed CASE Engineer Harry Kline as told to me: The 1170 was designed specifically for the Rice Country. Soon after, it was determined to be too heavy. It was redesigned & lightened up & renumbered "1175". I remember the Front Axle being mentioned.

1170's had a cast radiator nose,75's were plastic or fiberglass. The hubs for the rear wheels were cast on the 70's,stamped steel on the 75's.The 75's and the last 70's also steered easier than the first 1170's.Otherwise the tractors were almost identical.

Don't forget 1175's were only available with the straight eight speed transmissions and were equipped with outboard planetaries.

Forgot this. Both were only available with outboard planetaries also. No axles on either of these.

The 1170 was offered as 8-speed only also. No powershift available on either 1170 or 1175.
