Hello,
I had no brakes, pulled the cover off and they were oiled up good. I pulled everything out including the last plate (power plate). I have disk type brakes. Well, the diff shaft dropped down when I pulled out the power plate. When reinstalling,
is there is special alignment needed for the diff gears or when I get the plate on will everything be in it's proer place. This is worrying me a little. Thanks

I just kept all the shims in order and stuck it all back together. put in a new seal, take a torch to the discs and burn off the grease. I've heard of people putting them in their oven, but if your married and don't want to sleep in the garage, ask first.

I have another question. When putting the plate
back on that holds the bearing carrier, do I put this plate on with out the seal inside and then put the seal in after the plate is bolted on?

Thanks,
WOD

After you reinstall the end plates, check for end play in the shaft. The seals may have went bad for a reason other than age. If there is end play, invest in a manual for the instructions on the proper set up of the gears. This may be the intial cause if your transmission was making noise before, especially in reverse.
Good Luck

You'll need to replace the grease seals, to stop the brakes from getting soaked again....Also check the oil level in the rear end when your done. 90 wt gear lube

You should have no problem. No alignment is necessary. Just don't lose the shims that provide the correct endplay on the carrier bearings and be careful of the seal when you assemble it.

What he said. If the pads are really soaked, try runing a propane or oxy torch set on low over it a few times. It cooked the oil out of mine, and made them usable again. Just make sure not to get them to hot. Good luck!
