Several years ago I did a 6V-to-12V conversion on my old VAS case tractor. The tractor cranks and runs great but I have problems with the starter breaking springs right often. When this happens the starter still works but often does not engage the flywheel properly. Does anyone know of a good solution for this problem?

TIA,
-Bill

I converted my VAS to 12V and I haven't had a problem. Of course I don't let the starter spin too much if it doesn't crank up right away. I'm guessing the replacement springs aren't as tough as the original.

I guess I've been lucky I converted mine abou seven years ago and have never had a bit of problems with it. Are you still running it as a positive ground or did you put an alternator on it. If you stick with a generator you can polarize it either way. I don't know if that would make any difference or not.
