1950 VAC Paint question

I'm restoring a 1950 VAC and the paint code listed on this website calls for Flambean Red (dupont 066DH). That seems too red to me. My tractor seems more orange. Any thoughts? Second question, should the front rims be painted the same color as the body or painted silver?

dave, I have a VAC also which I just sandblasted a repainted. I went to a IH dealer and bought the "red" paint which is the original color and it looks great It really isn't red at all, its orange.

I had the same problem at our local O'Reilly Auto Parts store. I took the same paint code in, they mixed it, and I swear when I opened the can it was IH Red, not Flambeau red. They mixed it again and used a different code. I wish I could tell you the code, but the empty can is at my farm. I am still a beginning painter and wished I had never used the Dupont paint. I shot a whole gallon of $100 paint and still didn't get the results I wanted. I then went to the local Orscheln's store and bought some $20 gallon VanSickle paint and got a great job first try. The main difference was probably leaving out the hardener. I had a friend say he has trouble shooting paint with hardener too. Maybe that comes with experience. Until I get better, I am sticking with the VanSickle.

Maybe the paint man mis mixed the paint, but you have to remember that your tractor has probably faded quite a bit over the years. If I remember right if it has clamp on front wheels the rims are silver and the centers are orange if it has bolt on rims the entire wheel assembly is orange.

According to OLD ABE`S NEWS, wheel rims were painted silver or aluminum
on models after 1941, black on earlier. Starter, gen, lights, muffler
exhaust manifold, and distributor were black. Intake painted flambeau
red and magneto was painted with different colours (depended on
manufactor)
