I just rebuilt one of my VAC's, and the darn thing keeps burning points. I only takes about 4-5 minutes to do it. What am I over looking here? Should I just bite the bullet and go pointless?

You may have the coil wired backwards. I did this once on an old Chevy. The coil needs to be wired with the positive terminal on the coil connected to the distributor. The battery power from the switch connects to the negative terminal on the coil. If it's reversed, points will last a very short time. Opposite on a neg ground set up.

I have a VAC and a DC (converted to distributor) and why Case used Pos ground on one and neg on the other has always confused me. Anyway is the coil wired correctly?? Neg terminal to ignition switch...Pos term to distributor???
Also are we sure it is a 6 V coil?? I am assuming you have changed out the condensor. Final question which side of the points is pitted and which side is built up???

The stationary contact is getting loaded with white crud that comes right off with scotch brite. It is a brand new 6 volt coil and it was wired correctly. Now, what is the deal with these with and without resister coils? I put a new everything in and on the distributer from NAPA, and just now changed the points, condenser, and rotor to Genuine Case parts because they are still made in the USA. I don't know what to do with this critter. If it is a simple fix, I will just fix the darn thing. I have 2 other VAC's and I've never had any problems with them. All of my Farmall's I've switched over to electronic ignition and that works good too.

Is your tractor set-up with the 12 volt system? If so, do you have a resistor in-line to the coil/distributor?
